Clint Smith is a poet and educator who draws inspiration from both the problems of American society and from those who he teaches. He emphasizes the importance of speaking one's mind and standing up to fix society's issues. But what makes this possible is the ability to develop and express one's own values thanks to American rights. This power allows one to decide their own path and to help making positive changes to one's own environment. The power of the freedom of values and their expressions gives many Americans the potential to accomplish both change and live righteous life in their own terms. This concept was used in The Crucible when John Proctor attempted to stand up for what was right by exposing the girls who made false claims of witchcraft and trying to set the community free. However at this time, such expression was limited and easily shot down in favor those from people above them. But today it is a pinnacle of American lifestyle. I agree with this because my values in American society allow me to make a positive impact in the community and decide my own life.
